21 Days to a Novel Class in Second Life 4/17

On Saturday afternoon, starting at 3 PM Pacific time, I will be offering my 21 Days to a Novel class as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Sociey Relay For Life. The class will cost 2,000 game dollars (or $8 US, which is what you’d pay at a convention). You can take the class through Second Life. It will last about two hours.

This class is designed around twenty-one days worth of writing exercises that will prepare you to write a novel. Many folks find their novels just peter out after ten pages or ten chapters. This is because of insufficient preparation before they start writing. These exercises will set you up for success. They cover characterization, conflict, dialogue, world-building and plotting. The exercises are based on the same sort of work I do when preparing any of my novels.

If you click here or on the image above, you’ll go to my store and can buy the text book for the class for $20. Any sales of that book tomorrow will go for RFL. But, by attending the class in Second Life, you’ll be able to ask me questions directly so I can help you work around the difficulties you’ve had in writing your novel.

I’ve previously mentioned two events we held last week in Second Life. On Thursday the 8th we held an auction and then on Friday the 9th I had the first of my evenings reading from At The Queen’s Command. Attendees at each event were very generous and, combined, we raised $400.00 US for Relay for Life. Overall, after only a month, our team has raised over $1000.00.

Second Life, as I’ve mentioned before, is free, graphically-based chat software which supports voice-chat. I’ve been using it for over two years now for readings, classes and just chatting with folks during my weekly Office Hours.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed the software, and registered with Second Life, you can click this link to be teleported to the location for the class.

I noted above that Second Life is free. This is true, but it does have its own economy. You can purchase game dollars to spend on your American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life winnings. Second Life has been very supportive of RFL. Last year we were part of the effort which raised over a quarter of a million dollars for cancer research. It was during RFL last year that I lost my very good friend Dave Arneson to cancer, bringing home both the tragedy of the illness, and the need to fund research.

I really hope you’ll join me for this class. Of all the classes I teach, this is the one that people tell me has helped them the most.

See you tomorrow.
